Kamohelo Mokotjo believes that he and his teammates let themselves and Brentford’s supporters down by throwing away victory at Queens Park Rangers on Monday night.

Lasse Vibe’s brace had the Bees two goals to the good at Loftus Road but their west London rivals scored twice in two added-time minutes through Matt Smith and Luke Freeman to break Brentford hearts.

South African midfielder Mokotjo, who was making his first appearance for Dean Smith’s side since November 4, has no doubt the Bees should have held on to claim a second away win at the R’s in the space of four months.

“We could have easily seen that game out but it’s the choices that we’ve made in the last two minutes that have cost us,” said the 26-year-old, who featured in Brentford’s 4-1 win over QPR in the Carabao Cup back in August.

“The mood wasn’t good in the dressing room after the game and that’s the way it should be after such a result.

“The support is always great. I felt as though we let ourselves and the supporters down this evening because of the way we gave away the victory.

“It’s back to the drawing board but we saw a lot of good things and there’s still a long way to go – we have hope.”

Mokotjo was restored to Brentford’s starting XI after remaining an unnamed substitute in the Bees’ previous two games against Cardiff and Burton.

He added: “Whenever I’m called upon to play, I make sure I give my best.

"There’s lots of competition and everyone wants to play but hopefully I’ll earn the coach’s trust soon, get a few more games, and find my flow.

“The most important thing is that the team keeps on picking up results.”
