It took Brentford eight games to register their first win of the Championship season and drag themselves out of the relegation zone.

But after their stuttering start, Dean Smith’s resurgent Bees are unbeaten in the league since September 12 – a 2-1 loss at Sheffield Wednesday – and are chasing a fourth win in five matches at home to Leeds on Saturday.

The clash with an out-of-sorts United is one forward Ollie Watkins is hoping they can come out victors after defeating Steve Cotterill’s struggling Birmingham in midweek.

Despite not being at their fluent footballing best against the Blues, Watkins admitted there is a swagger around the Bees’ squad at the moment after their recent impressive climb up the table.

"You've got to pick yourself up and go again, hopefully get another three points and what a week that would be,” said Watkins, who joined Smith’s side from Exeter City in the summer.

“I'm confident we can beat any side in this league, because we've got a great bunch of lads and a great team.

"I don't think we played as good as we can [against Birmingham]. Some games we've played really nice football but haven't put the ball in the back of the net.

“It's one we'll look at and think that's a good three points away on a Wednesday night.

"There's a confidence around the squad, there's some good chemistry. There's a great bunch of lads in there, we stick together and we're finally getting the results we deserve."
