Florian Jozefzoon heaped praise on his Brentford side after twice being pegged back before claiming all three points against Preston North End.

The Bees had led twice at Deepdale, only for the hosts to force equalisers and thwart vital momentum in the closing stages.

But despite Preston holding the charge in the late stages, Ollie Watkins’ strike 21 minutes from time secured a vital away win, hauling the visitors six points clear of the relegation zone in the process.

And for winger Jozefzoon, it is results like these that can exude confidence in Dean Smith’s team, backing their success to continue in the coming weeks.

"I think we needed it," he said. "We started well, then gave a couple of easy goals away. We kept believing and in the end we really fought hard to not concede again. The three points are the most important.

"If you watch how they were pressing us, we kept getting the ball away from them and that's a really good thing for our defence. We got through it.

"My confidence was always high. With our team, we keep believing in ourselves, including the manager. We have to keep doing what we are doing and keep that belief."

Despite languishing in 18th place, this result extended the Bees’ unbeaten run to six games.

That run has included credible draws with both Middlesbrough and Sunderland, Premier League teams last season, with another big club in Birmingham City next on the agenda on Wednesday.

But with six goals in their last two outings, goals are certainly not something to be worried about ahead of the midweek trip to St Andrew’s, at least in the eyes of Jozefzoon.

He added: "We keept creating a lot of chances, and sometimes we could even have scored more I think. It's good that we keep doing what we are doing and are scoring goals.

"The defence is also important. If you watch this game back, we could have won two or three-nil. That starts at the front, we have to do better there, but we'll keep trying to score goals.

"We build up so well, they keep finding me and I have to take that on to a striker or another midfielder. I got another assist so that's good for me but especially for the team.”
