Jack Robinson believes Queens Park Rangers were unlucky not to salvage a point from their west London derby at home to Fulham in the Championship.

A Conor Washington consolation strike was not enough as Ian Holloway’s side pushed for a late equaliser against the Cottagers, as the hosts slipped to a fifth successive defeat in the league this season.

Rangers crammed Fulham's penalty area in dying stages, with Luke Freeman and Matt Smith going close before defender Tomas Kalas scrambled the ball off the line as Fulham held on.

And Robinson believes the R’s deserved more than they gained following the nine minutes of stoppage time that were added on.

“The fans could see we were at Fulham from the first minute. We had so many shots, so many chances, but we just couldn’t finish them off,” the 24-year-old said.

“It just wasn’t dropping for us. They were getting blocks in.

“It was just unlucky but that seems to be how we are at the minute – unlucky.

“When we pulled one back through Conor, I was sure we would get the draw.

“You look at our games against Millwall and Barnsley, where we scored late to take something from them, and I thought we would do it again against Fulham.

“Freesy [Freeman] had one which was saved and we had one cleared off the line as well. It just wouldn’t drop for us.”

The R’s face games against Sunderland and Bolton after the international break and Holloway’s outfit will be hoping to pick up at least four points against the struggling sides.

And Robinson believes a brief pause from domestic duties, coupled with fans’ positivity, will be key if his teammates are to push the reset button.

“The fans seemed happy with the performance, so we should be too,” said the former Liverpool man.

“We have to take the positives, think about how well we played, and then make sure we take that into Sunderland after the international break.”
