Playing alongside your heroes is an opportunity few get to experience, but that’s exactly what lies in wait for one Earlston teenager when she takes to the tennis court with Andy Murray, in November.

Sammy Kerr, 17, was selected from hundreds of tennis enthusiasts who entered the #TeamUp competition, with entrants required to send in a video of themselves playing keepy-up with a tennis racket and ball for ten seconds.

Kerr will play alongside the two-time Wimbledon champion when Andy Murray Live returns to Glasgow’s SSE Hydro on November 7, with his five-time Grand Slam-winning brother Jamie and mother Judy their opponents across the net.

She will then enjoy the sell-out show – which will also welcome tennis legend Roger Federer – from the comfort of exclusive close-to-court seats, before attending a lunch with all the players.

“I started playing tennis when I was around ten years old,” said Kerr, who studies art and design at Borders College in Galashiels.

“It’s a game I have always really enjoyed and I play for fun, and while I play both, I prefer singles to doubles.

“I saw the #TeamUp competition on Facebook and I knew I would enjoy the challenge, it was something interesting to do.

“I was so excited when I found out I had won. I was in the middle of college when my mum called to tell me and I started screaming!

“My friends are all really jealous of me. I watched Andy at Andy Murray Live last year, and I always watch him when he’s at Wimbledon.”

Three-time Grand Slam champion Murray is likely to miss the rest of the season due to an ongoing hip injury, but is expected to return to the form that saw him crowned World No.1 at the end of 2016, in the new year.

And despite there being just over a month to go until she joins her hero on court, Kerr is already bursting with excitement.

“I’m extremely excited to play alongside him. I just can’t believe it’s going to happen,” she said.

“I don’t really know what to expect, I think I’m going to be very nervous but it will be exciting at the same time.

“Hopefully he’ll be able to give me some tips, but I’m not sure what I will say to him.

“It’s going to be amazing to play against Jamie and Judy too!”
