Queens Park Rangers striker Jamie Mackie is confident the Hoops can have a successful season if they learn from their mistakes in the defeat at Middlesbrough at the weekend.

Mackie and summer signing David Wheeler netted for Rangers, but goals from Lewis Baker, Ashley Fletcher and record signing Britt Assombalonga gave the Teessiders victory.

QPR’s away form is in stark contrast to their performances at Loftus Road, where they have won three and drawn one of their league games so far this season.

But Mackie believes his side can develop consistency and enjoy a fruitful campaign in the Championship.

“Given how far we’ve come and where we’re going, frustration was the biggest feeling after the game,” he said.

“When you score two goals in a game, it should be enough. So we’ve got to learn quickly about game management and doing the right things at the right time.

“When we’re winning in games, we have to know how to see them out.

“If you’d have told me in the morning that we’d score two goals, I would have thought that we were coming away with something.

“But there were also so many positives that we can take from Saturday. To know we should have got something, away to a team who should be up there, is certainly one of them.

“It’s about us doing the right things together, as a team, to win. Saturday was a steep learning curve – but one we have to learn from very quickly.

“I seriously believe that we can have a good season. And if we do learn, doing the right things at the right times in games, I really do think we can be up there.”
