Ian Holloway couldn’t hide his frustration at QPR’s finishing as Norwich inflicted their first defeat of the Championship season.

Second-half strikes from Nelson Oliveira and Harrison Reed were enough to give the Canaries all three points at Carrow Road on Wednesday night as QPR squandered numerous chances in the opening 45 minutes.

First R’s full-back Jake Bidwell blasted over from 12 yards before Jamie Mackie forced a good save from Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn from inside the penalty box.

And Holloway was made to rue those chances, claiming his side should have taken full advantage of their first-half performance.

The 54-year-old said: “I thought we deserved more from the first half. We looked a really good team at times.

“Unfortunately we didn't turn our dominance into goals and that's what costs you at this level.

“Then we made a terrible error at the start of the second half and they took full advantage. The clearance was poor and then we didn't defend it well enough.

“We had a chance at 1-0 but deep down did we create enough? Probably not.

“The second goal killed it - bang into the top corner. But we didn't defend it well enough. Yes it's a good strike but we didn't defend it well.”

The result means QPR have taken four points from their opening three games, beating last season’s play-off finalists Reading and drawing with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

And despite defeat last night, Holloway believes his team should take pride from their encouraging displays so far this term.

“Our body language at the end disappointed me because overall it was a much-improved performance from the last time we were here,” he said.

“I can't be too downbeat with the performance.

“I felt so comfortable in the first half but the first goal changed the game.

“We've got to be stronger mentally though. That's life. On we go to the next one.”

The R’s will entertain Hull City at Loftus Road on Saturday before taking on West London rivals Brentford in a juicy Carabao Cup second-round clash next Tuesday.
