QPR are embarking on their third consecutive season in the Championship but ahead of a Wednesday night showdown with Norwich City, Jamie Mackie believes the squad is in the best shape it has been for a long time.

Relegation from the Premier League in 2014-15 was followed by 12th and 18th-placed finishes in the second tier but with manager Ian Holloway entering his tenth month on the job, there is finally a more settled feel to the West London outfit.

And with that has come a promising start to the current campaign – an opening-day 2-0 win over Reading being followed by Carabao Cup success against Northampton and a 1-1 draw up at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Daniel Farke’s Norwich, who have one point from their opening two Championship matches, host the R’s on Wednesday and Hoops striker Mackie insists his team are more confident than ever.

“We know our game plan now,” he said. “It’s been a bit of a transitional period in the last couple of years for the club and a lot of things have changed off the field.

“Transfer fees and recruitment has had to change. In the past few years, we’ve had money to spend but now we’ve got a good squad and a good game plan.

“I’ve been at the club a long time [he originally joined from Plymouth in 2010 for a three-year spell before returning in 2015] and I’ve seen so much change, but you need a settled side, a settled club and a settled mentality. The teams who have that have always done well in this league.”
