Brentford manager Dean Smith lamented his side’s lack of organisation after they went down 3-2 against Preston North End.

Smith’s side took an early lead through Maxime Colin, but Aiden McGeady inspired Simon Grayson’s men to roar back and secure the points.

Preston scored three times, and only a late effort by Colin made the scoreline more respectable.

Bees boss Smith is now targeting their match against Reading as an opportunity to bounce back.

“I was disappointed with our defensive organisation after the third goal," said Bees boss Dean Smith.

"They broke twice and had one-on-ones with the goalkeeper and they’ve got the chance where they’ve scored as well. That’s what’s disappointing and annoying.

"We’ve got to dust ourselves down because we’ve got a big game now at Reading.

“I feel it’s one missed because I felt we were well on top for an hour of the game really until they scored the third goal.

"Sometimes it’s things that need to go your way, the one that rolls across the line, if it gets tapped in at 2-2 I think we probably go on and win the game."

Colin latched onto Harlee Dean’s ball forward after five minutes to force Chris Maxwell into a smart save as the Londoners started brightly.

The Bees took a 12th minute lead when Jota’s corner was met by an unmarked Field to head home as the Lilywhites defence fell asleep.

Republic of Ireland international McGeady drew Preston level after unleashing a sublime shot from at least 20 yards which flew past Daniel Bentley.

Jota almost handed his side back the advantage with a teasing 36th minute effort which curled wide while Maxwell was quick off his line to deny Florian Jozefzoon before half-time.

But Robinson gave Preston the advantage after tapping home from McGeady’s 52nd minute ball for his seventh league strike this season.

Field ghosted past Horgan and set up Lasse Vibe whose 63rd minute flick trickled towards goal and off the post before being cleared by Greg Cunningham.

McGeady wrapped up the points with 15 minutes remaining after shrugging off two challenges and curling a fantastic shot past Bentley.

Hugill nearly added Preston’s fourth moments later after racing clear to go one-on-one but Bentley was quick off his line.

But Horgan made no mistake after being slipped in by Ben Pearson to coolly slot home 13 minutes from the end in a Preston counterattack.

Colin grabbed one back for Brentford a minute before full-time as his heavily deflected effort went in off the bar.

Preston manager Simon Grayson heaped praise on man of the match McGeady as the Lilywhites came from behind to put Brentford to the sword.

Tom Field handed the Bees an early lead but McGeady levelled with a magnificent strike and Callum Robinson gave Preston the advantage after the break.

McGeady's sublime second was quickly followed by Daryl Horgan's first Preston goal while Colin's late deflected effort proved consolation for Brentford.

And Preston boss Simon Grayson joked that Everton loanee McGeady might not be at Deepdale much longer if he replicates his performance against the Bees.

“Geads has got fantastic quality - you’ve seen that all season since we’ve been here. We’ve just not seen sometimes the end product," he said.

"If Geads can play like that week in, week out, then we won’t see him here. That’s why he’s had the career that he’s had but ultimately he’s here and he’s enjoying his football and we’re reaping the rewards from it.

"Obviously we were disappointed when we went a goal down from a set piece but over the course of the game we were better as the game grew on.

"Ultimately we’re delighted to have won the game 4-2 but if you look at the chances, we could have had a few more."
