Brighouse Town have already made history by reaching the SSE Women’s FA Cup third round, but coach Rob Mitchell is hoping to rip up the record books all-together next month.

Four goals from Jodie Redgrave on January 8 not only saw the striker named SSE Women’s FA Cup player of the second round, but saw Brighouse Town advance to the third round of the competition for the first time in the club’s history.

Redgrave’s heroics – which included a last-minute winner – saw her side past Long Eaton and set up an historic clash with Everton in the next round on February 8.

And a defiant Mitchell is determined to prepare his players to give them the best chance of writing another new chapter in the Huddersfield club’s history next month.

“The furthest we’ve ever been was the first round,” Mitchell said. “It’s going to be massive.

“We’re hoping to get big support. We’ve got it all over Facebook, asking people to come down and support us.

“Nobody’s expecting us to do anything – we’re going in with zero pressure.

“All the pressure is on them, they’re just coming into their season, they won’t have played many games, and the pitch will probably be a leveller.

“Don’t get me wrong, they’re a top team, and they’re going to be better physically, and really, really quick.

“But if we can keep them at bay and take chances of our own, it’s there for us.”

Redgrave was the star of the show as she downed Long Eaton last time out, adding to the six goals she scored in a 13-0 defeat of Lower Hopton at the end of 2016.

And Mitchell added that Redgrave’s ability shines through in training and in matches, and also praised his striker for turning down offers from other clubs to stay at Brighouse.

“She’s just an unbelievable player,” he added. “At training, she does things and I just think ‘wow’.

“Up front, she offers something that not a lot of others teams have. Other teams have come in for her but she’s been really loyal.

“That’s massive for us and she’s just been unbelievable.”
