Few can hold claim to seeing their childhood ambitions come to fruition, but one Edinburgh racing fanatic admits his boyhood dream has come true after driving to victory at Silverstone.

Colin Noble was victorious in Saturday’s Jet Super Touring Car Trophy at the Silverstone Classic, the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival.

This year’s event saw more than 100,000 motorsport enthusiasts descend on the home of British racing, with more than 10,000 cars on display across the weekend, as well as fairground rides and attractions on offer to thrill the whole family.

And for 20-year-old Noble, who crossed the line just two tenths of a second ahead of his nearest competitor, admits claiming victory in front of a bumper Silverstone crowd gave him an added buzz.

“It was really good, but there was quite a hard fight at the end and I was under a lot of pressure during the last half of the race,” he said.

“The first four laps felt really good and the car and the pace went up really quickly.

“This isn’t the first time I’ve won at Silverstone as I won here a couple of years ago.

“It feels really special to have won here at the home of Silverstone. It has been a massive meeting this weekend with really big crowds, so it feels extra great to have raced in front of them.

“I think the Silverstone Classic is very impressive. It’s probably one of the biggest meetings I have been at as far as crowds go and the amount of content that is available here, so I have been really impressed with what is on offer.”

Noble, who plies his trade as a mechanic when not at the wheel of his car, dreams of one day turning professional and leaving his overalls firmly behind.

And he admits the experience of racing on the finest track in Britain is an added bonus as he looks to further his career in the sport.

“I started karting at the age of 11, and after four years of that, I did two or three years of racing in single-seaters,” he said.

“This year, I have started competing in the GT Open, so I’m just doing the Silverstone Classic as a one-off event in a family-owned car.

“I’d love to turn professional one day, be a full-time racing driver, that’s my big dream within the sport.”

Silverstone Classic is the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival and provides flat out family fun. The weekend event features over 1,000 race entries and 10,000 classic cars on display, drawing in 100,000 classic motorsport enthusiasts and their families.
