FOUR-TIME Olympian Chemmy Alcott believes Cara Brown’s all-or-nothing approach on the slopes will mark her out as one to watch at next week’s Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships.

Alcott has long been queen of the slopes when it comes to British alpine racing, picking up seven overall national titles and making history as the only Briton to win a run in a World Cup race.

However, this year sees the chance for a new star to emerge, with Alcott retiring after winning the British super-G, downhill and super-combined titles last year.

She did not have things all her own way last year, with Brown in particular pushing her hard on the slopes.

Alcott believes Brown’s ability to raise the bar at the big competitions gives her the a stand-out chance when the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships get underway in Tignes on Sunday.

“I love the way Cara skis and she always seems to up her game for the British champs. We had a few good battles last year,” said Alcott, who was speaking in her role as Ski Club of Great Britain ambassador.

“It’s all or nothing for her. She really attacks it. She’s always on the limit so she’s either fast or she has a few crashes.

“I remember last year, in the National Champs, she broke her ski and had to find another pair to race on the next day.

“There will be a good battle definitely between Charlie Guest and Darcie Mead and Cara Brown.

“I think Cara and Darcie in the speed disciplines, now that I’m out the way. They want those titles, but I think it’s nice that so many are fighting for that silverware.”

The venue has been changed for the first time in more than a decade, with Tignes now playing host, instead of Meribel.
