YOUNG athletes inspired by British Olympic heroes Kelly Holmes and Dean Macey took part in mini games in Hazlemere.

More than 30 budding young athletes aged eight to 14 received top quality coaching over four days and picked up gold, silver and bronze medals from a UK Athletics course.

Wycombe District Council and Wycombe Phoenix Harriers Athletics Club joined forces to put on the course at Sir William Ramsay School in Rose Avenue, Hazlemere.

Cllr John Savage, cabinet member for leisure said: "The Olympics should really act as a reminder to us all of how important it is to provide avenues into sport for young people if we want to be able to contribute to the British teams of the future."

During four days the children received coaching in all athletics disciplines. Each child gained scores for each event and received an award of either bronze, silver or gold medals. Awards went to the most improved and the most dedicated athlete.
