LABOUR MP Virendra Sharma has stormed to victory at the Ealing Southall by election.
Despite the fact that the Labour majority was halved from 2005, the night was still being seen as a victory for the Labour party - who also held their seat in Sedgefield. The party had suffered over two weeks of election campaigning, with five Labour councillors from Southall swapping sides to the Conservatives in protest against what they called their "disorganised and divided" party.Mr Sharma - who polled 15,188 votes, compared to Nigel Bakhai's 10,118 for the Liberal Democrats, and Tony Lit's 8,230 for the Tories - said he was honoured to serve Ealing Southall.
