COUNTING is well underway in both the Ealing-Southall and Cleveland by-elections.
Tight security and a substantial police presence surround Ealing Town Hall as anxious candidates wait for the 72 volunteers to tally the ballots.
A heavy media presence is also a telling indicator of just how important this election is as a barrometer for the fortunes of all three of the front line parties.
The results for the Cleveland Council by-election are expected at any time now, while the Parliamentary result is not anticipated until 1.30am.
The question is whether the high visibility campaigning of Tony Lit and Nigel Bakhai over the past two weeks will be enough to wrestle this seat from Labour after years of control.
