A medical team tend to Bolton Wanderers' Fabrice Muamba after he collapsed during a match with Tottenham Hotspur
Premier League footballer Fabrice Muamba is in a stable condition in hospital after collapsing in front of millions of television viewers, according to reports.
A packed White Hart Lane looked on and millions more people were watching the match live on ESPN as the Bolton Wanderers midfielder suddenly crumpled to the ground nowhere near the ball during a sixth round FA Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur.
Confusion turned to horror as medics sprinted on to the pitch to begin resuscitating the 23-year-old.
Players looked shocked and watched in disbelief as the former England Under 21 star was treated with a defibrillator for several minutes before being stretchered off wearing an oxygen mask and taken to hospital.
World Cup referee Howard Webb abandoned the game.
Unconfirmed reports later quoted hospital sources and a spokesman as saying the father-of-one was in a stable condition in hospital.
