Dog walkers call for action
DOG WALKERS in Acton are calling on council officers to impose tough measures on owners who let dangerous breeds run off their leads.
Dogs have killed trees in Springfield Garden by stripping the bark off by them during behaviour known as ringing.
Many owners are also intimidated by Staffordshire Bull Terriers allowed to run off their leads.
In one case a dog terrorised children as they played in a playground in the popular park.
Now Ealing Council has promised to take action against owners who allow their pets to run amok.
Dog owner Nicky Howard, 61, who uses the park regularly, said: "There have been a number of incidents of dogs ringing trees, which kills them, and I have even seen dogs being allowed to run around in the kiddies' play area.
"I have been after the council to do something about this for a while, and I have even called in local police officers to do something about it.
"These dogs have to be kept on their leads because they can be dangerous and could seriously harm other dogs, or even people, wanting to use the park.
"It's completely irresponsible to allow these kind of dogs to be off their leads."
Council officers have promised action to try and stop the problem.
Verity Adams, a spokesman for the council, said: "Park staff have been working with Acton Central Safer Neighbourhood Team to ensure dog owners behave responsibly.
"Police Community Support Officers have spoken with the owners of the Staffordshire Bulls about keeping their dogs on a lead and muzzled.
"Extra signs have now been installed in the park prohibiting dogs from entering the playground area."

On 4 May a King Charles was subject to attack by a white staffy in Springfield Gdns. The council and police should clamp down on the STATUS SYMBOL dogs by not allowing them into local parks. If a person has the mentality less tan a grain of rice, they should not be allowed by law to own a potentially dangerous dog. The council should enforce the doctoring of specific dog breeds by allocating funds and vet services to perform the surgery.
Lets now hope that the council and police will enforce the dangerous dogs act and, also make suitable amendments to the act.

[/quote] I dont feel to great about staffies, there prone to cataracts, hc,phpv, hip displacia, gass problems, and ear infection, and there ears a hard to read.
i read an article on greyhounds, and this author practicly called for the banning of greyhounds, as they were breed to hunt, and simply see dogs and other animals as prey and she had to unseccesfully treat a dog that was ripped apart by greyhounds. yes i know its rediculus, but is the suggestion by these people any better?
But lets be serious, the vast majority of staffies ive met have been extreamly friendly to me, i know of a staffieXpit, and he lets me sleep on him. and even lap dogs can, and have killed people.
staffies were breed to fight other DOGS, they wer NEVER bred to attack humans. in fact apbt, irish staffies, bull terriers, staffies, etc are one of the very few breed that had agression towards humans bred OUT of them. when the where not fighting they perfromed as family pets, and before/after and even during the pain and agony and stress during a dog fight the owner and the judge needed to extensivly handle the dog, and if it showed any agression toawrds humans it was deemed unsafe for fighting and destroyed on the spot. in westminister in the 1800's dog fighters were so confident about not getting biten that they rolled there sleves up exposing their arm before handling the dogs who were fighting.
In fact they are probably the worst guarding breeds becuase they lets practicly anyone in for a cuddle, dog fighters actualy employ breeds such as gsd's and rotties to guard them , as they are so easy to steal, they walk away with anyone (75% of all stolen dogs are staffies). staffies and chesas are the only two breeds out of the 190+ reconised by the gb kennel club, that has a standered that actually states their good with children.
and there is NO correlation between dog-dog agression, and dog-human agression, when tiggy sees dogs he snaps and growls and atempts to lunge at them, yet he luvs people and allows strangers to come up to him and stroke him
staffies may have their problems, but i cant thing of a single breed that doesnt.
Genetics (breed) plays only a part in the temperament of an individual dog and scientific studies from around the world show that environment probably has a far greater effect. A large percentage of dog biting incidents are due to the irresponsible actions of owners, who have either not taken the time and trouble to train their dog correctly, or have indeed trained them to behave aggressively. Consequently any legislation based on genetics that ignores the influence of the dog’s keeper on its behaviour is likely to be ineffective.
(80% of dog attacks are from intact males, 90% of dog attacks are from the familys dog or a dog familiar to the person, a chained dog is 5X more likley to bite, and the majority of attacks on children take place when the child and dog are not suppervised together)
and what proof do you actualy have that the attacking dog was a staffie, ive seen people mistake jack russels for staffies.
and dogs dont simply turn round one day and say "you know what i feel like mauling someone today" theyed have to be human to do that. the amount of times ive seen people completly ignore a dogs body language then when the dog bites says it turned on me is amazing.
and if the law is enforced the ones that use them as wepons, will simply ignor the law, and say its not a staffie its a xyz breed, and then those with an xyz breed will be accused of having an unmuzzeled staffie and have their dog pts. or the ones you get dogs to be hard, will simply start victimising another breed.( in the early 20th century bloodhounds were the hard, killer dog of choice, notice how they along with gsd, dobies, etc have been moved out of hard killer fashion.
bsl has been proven time and time again to be ineffective, and i find it redicilicalicus that a well breed trained socialised staffy, would be made to wear a muzzle and be ekpt leashed, when the dog that almost killed me, becuase its owner couldnt controll it properly would be able to roam around at its will.
and i bet the petetion is written by dog owners who dont bother to pick up after their dog, or train, socialise it, and get it off byb, and let their dog practicly run wild. becuase they have "a magicall happy breed that never ever bites people"

Nicola,
The owners of these breeds have a very low IQ.
'Mean dog equals mean profile'.
Just like guns and knives these dogs are yet another symbol of mindless agression and ignorance.
