Dickens Yard consultation begins

THE consultation into a major development at Dickens Yard, in the heart of Ealing, has started.

Developer St George has submitted its plans for transforming the land behind the Town Hall in Ealing Broadway into a residential and shopping complex.

The developer wants permission to knock down the old Town Hall annex and replace it with seven new buildings, including a 15-storey tower, providing 697 housing units, plus 9,040 square metres of shopping space.

The consultation is scheduled to finish on Friday, June 27. To see full details of the application visit www.ealing.gov.uk

What would be really bold and fantastic for Ealing would be a promise that the 'Shopping Complex' was entirely comprised of independent, local shops and a ban on the ubiquitous multiples! Done properly this would become a London destination, rather than a high street clone.

What is interesting is why Alex Hayes is afraid of comment on this theme: the next article on this theme (30th April) doesn't allow any comments to be added: clearly the "vested interests" are winning and fair comment goes out the window--are St George running loads of adverts or something?
Arthur. P.S. 700 homes and shops in an ex-Council ar park is prety frightening: how about 17 with big gardens?

I am totally behind this scheme for Ealing. I think the design is in keeping with the area. With the shopping complex in White City being developed; Ealing needs something to keep trade on our doorstep.I would rather this new innovatitive design than a load of 'pound shops'

Another 9000 sq metres of pound stores..more a bazaar than a shopping centre!
