A REPORT claiming crime has increased on London's buses has been labelled "misleading" by Transport for London.
The figures, released today by the London Assembly, show incidents of crime on the capital's buses are higher than two years ago.
But TfL argued this is untrue, and crime rates are at their lowest since 2004.
Jeroen Weimar, director of transport policing and enforcement for TfL, said: "While the report recognises that buses are a low crime environment, there are a number of conclusions that have been drawn incorrectly.
"Crime on London's buses is low and getting lower."
He argues there has been an 11 per cent reduction in crime levels on buses, and there are now 15 crimes for every million passenger journeys, compared with 20 in 2005/6.
Mr Weimar called other parts of the report, called Crime and Disorder on London's Buses, misleading, including the assessment of security on the Docklands Light Railway, and a failure to take into account the impact of bus crime reporting.
