A BANKING unit has been set up at an HSBC in Ealing purely for Polish immigrants.

The Polish Business Unit, intended to target emerging entrepreneurs from the 60,000-strong Polish community in the UK, was officially opened on Wednesday in the branch at The Broadway.

Alan Keir, the global cp-head of commercial banking at HSBC, said: "We're tailoring our commercial services to the diverse needs of companies and communities in the 21st Century by offering a dedicated Polish business unit.

"It's a unique development in the banking industry; meeting the specific needs of Polish businesses in Britain who need a bank who can, quite literally, speak their language and make UK banking accessible to them.

"We believe our new unit will help the Polish business community to grow and prosper in the UK."

The unit boasts polish-speaking staff, electronic and telephone banking, internet pages in Polish, connections to Polish HSBC branches and WorldPay - an HSBC scheme that lets customers send up to £2,000 back home for only £9 a time.
