VOLUNTEERS are being sought to play a key role in the transformation of Pitzhanger Manor by acting as trustees on a new charitable trust that will support its restoration.
The Grade 1 listed house sits on the edge of Walpole Park and was occupied by architect Sir John Soane from 1800-10.
He made extensive changes to the house, which he used to display his large collection of art and antiques and as a summer retreat.
The renovation aims to open up many rooms that are currently closed to the public and to restore the manor to its 19th Century glory.
The first phase is being financed by £275,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It is estimated the project will eventually cost £8.2 million.
Ealing Council leader Julian Bell said: "The trustees we are seeking will play a key role by sharing their time, experience and skills in a range of areas to support this transformational project."
