Two borough teachers are heading to a prestigious London ceremony after being recognised for their hard work.
Radha Jaipersad, of Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls, and Mohammed Sabur, from Elthorne Park High, emerged as winners in the 2012 Pearson Teaching Awards after being judged against a record number of nominations from pupils, parents and fellow teachers.
Ms Jaipersad, who has taught science at the school since 2002, was judged the best teacher in a secondary school in London. She was praised by parents for her high expectations of pupils and her passion and enthusiasm for the subject.
“I was truly surprised to win this award,” she said. “I have been truly blessed to have the support of my school, colleagues and most importantly my students.”
Mr Sabur won the award for head teacher of the year in a secondary school in London, after leading Elthorne High for the past 15 years. He is due to retire at the end of this academic year.
They will now compete with teachers across the nation at the televised awards ceremony in the autumn.
