Acton High to have its own sixth form from 2012

ACTON High School is to have its own sixth form from September 2012.
Plans were approved by Ealing Council last week, delighting current students who have shown interest in remaining at the school after completing year 11.
The school has secured sole use of the Greer Centre building, which from September will become the central point of the new sixth form centre, including teaching space, study space, admin offices and social areas for the students.
A statement on the school website said: “The opening of Acton High School Sixth Form will be the beginning of a new chapter in the story of the school.
“We are tremendously excited by the possibilities given by the sixth form to shape this story in the future and look forward to working with all of our students as they develop their roles and play their part.”
Acton High is currently the only secondary school in the borough without a sixth form.
Cllr David Millican, Ealing Conservative group leader, said: “I have visited the school a number of times, and each time I leave more and more impressed by the sense of community and pride the students and teachers have created.
“The sixth form will provide more opportunities for our young people to equip themselves to compete in the global marketplace."
A sixth form open evening on Wednesday, December 14 at 6.30pm will allow prospective students to hear about entry requirements and speak to teachers.
