A 10-YEAR-OLD boy has died after being hit by a car in Southall.

The boy was cycling in Merrick Road at around 11.25am this morning when the accident happened, and he suffered serious injuries.

An air ambulance rushed him to hospital but he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

Merrick Road remains closed this afternoon between Bridge Road and Havelock Road as police investigate the crash.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene of the crash, and police have appealed for any witnesses to call 0208 998 5319.

The road closure is having a knock-on effect on traffic in the area causing delays stretching to Southall town centre.
