Harrow misses out on best council award

HARROW Council was pipped at the post by Ealing in the Best Achieving Council Award last week.

The borough was one of six shortlisted from around 450 across the country in a ceremony held by industry magazine the Municipal Journal.

Councillor David Ashton, leader of Harrow Council, said he was happy to be in the running for the honour, and said he hoped to do better next year.

He said: “We are really very pleased. We did a presentation and it went very well. Ealing won but being in the top six is a remarkable thing.

“Next year we will come back and win.”

The council's presentation highlighted a number of areas where officers say performance has improved, including cleaner and safer streets the borough's priority.

Mafuks - I think you've got that wrong. Have you so easily forgotten the 21% council tax increase in just 1 year under labour? Have you so easily forgotten that under labour our council tax actually doubled? Where have you been since 1997?

Top 6 eh? Well done Harrow council. Gareth - not sure which of your 2 tax payer funded homes you're in at present - but have you seen this news item yet on your tax-payer funded internet connection and your tax-payer funded laptop? Or are you busy munching thru your tax-payer funded food allowance of £400 a mth - you poor thing.
