DRAMATIC footage of a massive fire at a block of flats in Greenford last night has been sent in by readers.

The images show flames licking out of the bedroom window of a flat on the third floor of Thurlestone Court in Howard Road, on the Golf Links Estate, just after 7.30pm.

The blaze then spreads to the roof, and within seconds the whole of the structure is alight. Other pictures show dozens of residents from nearby blocks watching on in horror as the fire brigade struggles to get the fire under control.

Families evacuated from Thurlestone Court last night face a second night away from their homes, as officials assess the damage.

Eleven families are being put up in bed and breakfast accommodation by Ealing Council, while others stay with friends and family.

However, the council expects this number to rise the longer families are displaced.

Officials from the council and Ealing Homes have held a series of meetings with residents today, and have handed out £30 per family in spending money, as many were forced to flee the building before they could pick up their wallets.

A leaflet with contact numbers on has been given to residents on the estate, and housing officers from Ealing Homes will be based at the Links Centre in Fleming Road every day for the rest of the week for people to talk to.

My heart goes out to all the residents of Thurlestone Court. It is good to hear no-one is heart.

Hopefully Ealing Council will do their job for once and re-house them all.

We'd still like to know how within seconds the entire structure was alight given that these roofs should've been fireproofed after the last fire on the estate 12 years ago.

WHat gives with the back-handed comment about Ealing Council on a comment about a story about a FIRE?!

How about ditching - just for once - the negative comments about the council and Ealing Homes who, as it happens, worked flat out to help as many people as possible get through the traumatic event?

Because its a story about a FIRE that should not have spread so quickly and would not have done if firewalls that were recommended to Ealing Council to be installed after the fire at Selsdon & Abbeydale and which more importantly we were assured had been fitted. People living in nearby properties with exactly the same roofs are rightly worried that their properties are in just as much danger from fire. This happened 12 years ago, it should not have happened again and questions should be asked as to why.

At no point have I made negative comments about Ealing Homes who worked tirelessly throughout the night and deserve a lot more praise than I think they have been getting.
