Flats flooded after fire at estate

FLATS that escaped a fire at the Golf Links Estate in Greenford may now be flooded.

More than 60 firefighters and 16 fire engines tackled a blaze which engulfed the roof of Thurlestone Court last night but the furniture and personal belongings of dozens of people may now have been ruined by water damage.

Around 25 per cent of the top floor of the four storey block, in Howard Road, burnt, but 80 per cent of the second floor, half the first floor and 30 per cent of the ground floor have been hit by flooding.

Around 100 people spent last night away from home, as the firebrigade evacuated Thurlestone Court, along with two neighbouring blocks, and many slept in emergency accommodation in Greenford Hall.

Firefighters are still on the scene and it will be some time before residents can return to the building to find out what remains of their belongings.
