A LARGE number of residents have been evacuated after a blaze engulfed the roof of a block of flats at an estate in Greenford.
The fire at Thurlestone Court, a four story block in Howard Road, is now under control but the building is still alight and 15 fire engines are on the scene, with more than 60 firefighters.
Around 25 per cent of the third floor of the building, which is part of the Golf Links Estate, has also been damaged, and all 24 flats have been evacuated, along with two neighbouring blocks.
Around 100 residents are expected to spend the night away from home, with many staying in emergency accommodation provided by Ealing Council at Greenford Hall, in Ruislip Road.
Greenford Road has been closed northbound and Fleming Road is shut in both directions.
The fire brigade believe all residents have made it out alive and none were hurt.
The fire started at around 7.30pm.
