DESPITE driving rain and strong winds thousands of people turned out to enjoy this year’s London Mela.

The sixth annual mela was held in Gunnersbury Park, with dozens of different artists and dance groups performing on the various stages.

The evening was rounded off by Taz, one of the best selling Asian artists of all time, performing to thousands of screaming fans.

Earlier in the day thousands braved the terrible weather conditions to watch musicians from across the world, including Jassi Sidu, Rish Rich and Southall born DJ Bobby Friction on the Radio 1 stage.

Hundreds of people packed into the Community Cabaret tent to see the Flamenco stylings of Ealing born dancer Samantha Quyhas, and Nikesh Shukla.

As well as music and dance there was also entertainment for children, with storytellers in the Magic Mela tent and a huge funfair with dozens of rides for thrill seekers.

Many in the crowd enjoyed sampling food from across the globe, from curry from local restaurants to new chicken recipes at Bibi’s Burger Kitchen, and smoothies to Sungria.

Hello, in respect of the London Mela, it was quite a down pour. I was however impressed by the event and especially the varieties of different foods available. Your article mentions Bibi's Burger Kitchen or BBK, which prompted me to write in. Incidently i did visit the stand and ate very well. I was very impressed with their trendy set up and range of foods which were prepared freshly and handmade. I thought their burgers were exceptional and if i were served this in a restaurant, a lesser quality burger would cost me around £9-10. At £2.50, it was a bargin. The food was packed with flavours and were particularly delicious and the young gentleman who has just started this company was very charming and informative. "We focus on Quality products for a great tase, with no junk or gunk, value for money and a quality of service. We care about the people we serve, too many people serve crap to make a profit, we prefer not to focus on this because of our morals, but rather give our customers piece of mind that what we serve them to eat is the proper thing which is evident in the taste" I particularly enjoyed their lamb chops, which were very flavoursome, seasoned to perfection and extremely tender. Their Chicken, beef and lamb were also very good. Unfortunately the shakes and fresh cream sodas weren't on offer on the day but was informed that these were also very good. Curly fries were a hit with me and i urge Mr Khan, the owner, to set up on the high streets as soon as possible. Far better than the usual rubbish out there and in my opinion an out and out hit. Apparantly they are trading at Wembly Market on Sundays now and Golburn Road market on saturdays. I'll be down for second helpings.
