SPOTIFY’S vice president for Europe gave an insight into one of the world’s fastest growing companies in a careers talk at St Benedict’s, Ealing.

The music streaming company has gained more than 170m subscribers worldwide since its launch in 2008 by Daniel Ek.

His aim was to give a million creative artists the opportunity to live off their art and billions of fans the opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by it.

This was a new approach at a time when the music industry was on its knees, when 95% of downloads were illegal.

Marco Bertozzi talked about Spotify behind the scenes, its philosophy and its future.

St Benedict’s students asked many questions, including the company’s use of data (“We learn from what you’re listening to - our streaming intelligence builds audience trust”), what they look for when recruiting, and what percentage of  the company’s profits go back to the artist.
