Local homeless people enjoyed a festive treat from students who laid on a fabulous Christmas party complete with carols, presents and a delicious three-course meal at the University of West London (UWL).

Eleven rough sleepers who receive help from the Acton Homeless Concern charity visited Freddie’s Bar at the Students’ Union for a yuletide celebration on Monday.

They ate a traditional festive lunch prepared and served by students from London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism, while a group of talented London College of Music performers sang carols for the guests, who also received gifts of hand-knitted scarves and season’s greetings cards made by London School of Film, Media and Design students.

Ian Breen, Centres Manager at Acton Homeless Concern, said: "I was very touched by the effort students put into the party and our clients absolutely loved it.

"For them it was a nice break from the monotony of being homeless and they especially enjoyed the music, while the lunch was a very welcome treat."

Ola Arowosekila, a project coordinator at UWL Volunteering Service who led the event's planning and preparation, added: "I’m really happy that our guests enjoyed themselves.

"At Christmas it’s so easy to forget there are many people who you can help.

"This event was a great collaboration between Schools and I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to making it such a success."
