A TV documentary series is looking at the lives of Brits aiming to live the high life on a budget in Britain’s favourite holiday resort, Blackpool – and a former Northolt woman will be featured in episode two.

Bargain Loving Brits in Blackpool will next week feature Sharon Taylor, who took a gamble two years ago and ditched her life in Northolt to move to the North West.

Her dream was to open Blackpool’s only Caribbean restaurant and enjoy a new life in an area with a lower cost of living to the capital.

Her family originates from St Vincent in the Caribbean.

“I decided ‘I’ve had enough of this, I’m not doing it any more’,” she said. “I came to Blackpool to have a better life, stress free, have a business and be mortgage free.”

But it’s not turned out quite as she’d hoped. Since she and her two teenage daughters, Isma and Imira, moved north, nothing has changed.

For the last 18 months, she says she’s been missing out spending time with them as she works long hours cooking two menus after taking on a French restaurant but also cooking Caribbean food.

“I had to find a way of getting Caribbean into it, so I called it Frenchies with a Caribbean twist. I’m so stressed at running the Caribbean menu and the French menu, trying to do a bit of each,” she added.

“This is not the dream I came to Blackpool for. I’m doing deliveries door to door all night long and I’m thinking of packing up and moving on.”

Viewers will see her as she tries to find a better location for her business. Can she rescue her Blackpool Caribbean dream?

Because, for all the hard work, Sharon has not lost her love of Blackpool as a town and a resort.

“I used to come here as a child,” she said. “It has got everything that London and Vegas has and, five minutes from my front door, there’s the beach.”
