A range of cycling events will take place across Ealing in the next few weeks as a network of gyms in the borough encourages residents to take part in the borough's own Tour of France.

Everyone Active centres in Ealing are calling on the local community to join them and take part in Ealing’s Tour of France, as the centres host a range of cycling challenges and activities to celebrate the spirit of the iconic cycling event.

Northolt Leisure Centre, Southall Sports Centre, Everyone Active Acton, as well as Greenford, Elthorne, Twyford and Reynolds Sports Centres and Brent Valley Golf Course and Fitness Centre are all operated by Everyone Active on behalf of Ealing Council.

Throughout June and July, the centres will be hosting a range of challenges for both adults and children to take part in.

Individual Time Trials

Those under the age of 16 are invited to take part in the children’s individual time trial, which celebrates the opening stage of the Tour de France. Participants are being challenged to complete 14km in the fastest time possible. The fastest person from each centre will progress to the race final, which will be held on Wednesday 12th July.

Adults are being invited to take part in a 23km challenge, which is the same distance as the penultimate day of the Tour. Again, the fastest will progress through to the race final. It’s not just about the fastest though, prizes will also be on offer for outstanding efforts as well as contributions to the winners chosen charities.

Race finals night

On Wednesday 12th July from 14.00 to 20.00 at Brent Valley Golf and Fitness Centre, Everyone Active will host a race night where the fastest times will represent their centre against other Everyone Active centres in Ealing.

The Tour

From 1st until the 23rd July, Everyone Active is looking for participants to join their centre teams to see which sites can cycle the complete distance of the Tour, 3,521km. Visitors can pop into any of the Everyone Active centres and complete any distance as part of the challenge.

Corporate Race

Finally, participants can join the Tour de France with work colleagues. Enter teams of up to six, complete 23km as fast as possible and raise money for your chosen charity.

“We are delighted to be inviting the local community to join us in getting into the Tour de France spirit at all of our Everyone Active Ealing centres,” says Everyone Active Contract Manager James Bowden. “With a variety of ways to get involved, grab your friends and family and come and join us.”

Cllr Bassam Mahfouz, Ealing Council cabinet member for leisure, environment and transport, said: “Our local residents have a brilliant chance to enjoy and engage with cycling at centres across the borough as we celebrate the Tour de France, which is undoubtedly one of the most iconic sports competitions in the world.

“There are a number of exciting challenges and competitions for all the family and I encourage everyone to get involved, whether they are a keen cyclist or are looking for a way to enjoy the sport for the first time.”

“I will be part of Ealing Council’s team and I’m really looking forward to getting involved in these Tour de France challenges.”
