The Conservative candidate for Ealing Central and Acton has said she is focussed on representing all constituents should she be elected next month.

Originally from Ohio, Joy Morrissey is now a councillor for Hanger Hill, having lived in Ealing for more than 10 years with her husband and daughter.

She said: “I want to represent all communities. I am not here for one group I want to be a voice for everyone in Ealing and Acton.

“My passion is listening to people and giving them a voice is my whole reason of getting into politics,” she said.

Mrs Morrissey has worked in China, India and crisis zones including Albania and Kosovo during the Balkan conflict.

She said: “My humanitarian work has shaped the course of my life and I love working with diverse communities. It has changed my whole life and perspective.”

Mrs Morrissey also ran a campaign to save West Ealing’s Solace Centre mental health facility.

The centre, which particularly focuses on the care of those with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, was threatened with closure.

The six month campaign, which included lobbying the council and gathering over 6,000 signatures on a petition, helped lead to a new centre being planned next to the original.

This is set to open in a month.

She said: “I am committed to tackling discrimination of vulnerable people and protecting those suffering discrimination at work, who are suffering with mental health issues.

“For instance, the Solace Centre makes you feel part of the community and gives people the support to stay healthy,” she said

Mrs Morrissey is passionate about housing, and has expressed concern about new housing developments in South Acton.

The new neighbourhood, to be known as Acton Gardens, will have new homes and community facilities.

All council housing will be demolished and replaced with homes managed by residential developer L&Q.

Mrs Morrissey said said:  “Elderly residents are at risk of getting kicked out of the red brick estate during regeneration.

“When they are moved they won’t be put back into sheltered accommodation.

“I can help fight for them as I am passionate about it.

“I love the character of Ealing and do not want to see that destroyed by developers looking just to profit.”
