Work to upgrade the A4127 at Greenford Road started this week.

Ealing Council, in partnership with Transport for London (TfL) and Harrow Council has launched a scheme to upgrade the road, with the aim of instigating a range of improvements for road users as well as enhancements to Sudbury Hill High Street.

The scheme aims to make the local area safer and more attractive for walking, cycling and using public transport and is part of TfL’s ‘Healthier Streets’ initiative.

Cllr Bassam Mahfouz, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for environment transport and leisure said: “The council is working in partnership with Harrow and TfL to make these significant upgrades.

“There is a range of improvements planned that will make Greenford Road and Sudbury Hill High Street safer and more attractive places for local people.

“The changes will also see a boost for the local economy and the vibrant local high street.”

The plans will also see the introduction of step free access to Sudbury Hill Harrow Station from both sides of the street.

Works on the two railway bridges are also earmarked, subject to agreement from London Underground and Network Rail.

The scheme starts this week and is due for completion in December.

During this period there will be speed restrictions in place on the high road and the councils are therefore asking for road users’ patience while the upgrades take place.

Cllr Graham Henson, Harrow Council’s cabinet member for environment, crime and community safety said: “We welcome this much needed upgrade which will bring many benefits for both our residents and businesses in the area - this includes improvements to both transport networks and the environment.

“Our joint partnership with Ealing Council and TfL will help to keep both boroughs moving, make the area a more vibrant and attractive place to live and work, whilst also encouraging people to walk, cycle and use public transport for healthier living.”
