Ealing Central and Acton MP Rupa Huq will be among the professionals attending Ealing independent school St Augustine’s Priory's Careers Evening on Thursday March 2.

Headteacher Sarah Raffray said that she hopes the event will help pupils increase their self-awareness when considering their career choices.

Mrs Raffray said: "We realise that enabling girls to know themselves and treasure their own gifts is vital for long-term success in relationships in the work place.

"In other words we are not just talking about shattering glass ceilings, we want to help girls to be aware of the effect they have on others, to know how they respond to a crisis and how to recover when things go awry.

"If we are encouraging girls to be ambitious we also want to know that they are equipped with wisdom and emotional intelligence — their generation will need to shape a human response to emerging technologies.

"Their challenge will no doubt be engaging with robots - for the moment machines do not have consciousness but what if that does come about?

"We do not yet know what they will have to deal with but they need to be nimble and strong in their sense of self.

"I extend warm thanks to all those professionals who are giving so generously of their time tomorrow evening, especially to Rupa Huq MP and former Augustinian and keynote speaker, Christina Ohanian, a software testing engineer who will speak to us about their experiences."

St Augustine’s Priory's next Open Day is between 10am and 12pm on Saturday March 11 for Nursery through to Sixth Form places.
