EALING Autumn Festival’s ingenious musical dice throwing game The Digital MozArt has been chosen to take part in a major international event.

They will be presenting it at the International MozFest 2016, which is taking place at Ravensbourne, a venue next to the O2 Arena in north Greenwich, from October 29-30.

The Digital MozArt was created by the festival as a 21st century digital update to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s clever dice throwing game to compose a rare piece of music in the 18th century.

It was selected to take part by Arts Award, who is running the Digital and Arts Culture Section at the event.

MozFest (Mozilla Festival) is an annual celebration of the open internet movement, when passionate technologists, educators and makers come together to explore the future of the open web.

More than 1,500 people from 50 different countries will be attending.

Visitors to the recent open days at Northfields Leisure Library, as part of the festival’s touring Truth and Reconciliation painting exhibition, had a chance to try their hands at working out The Digital MozArt.

Festival artistic director Gillian Spragg said: “Coding, understanding music and creating software are what The Digital MozArt is all about.

“I got interested in the MozFest as I thought initially it was some sort of celebration for the composer Mozart, how wrong I was.

“It has offered a unique way to bring Mozilla and Mozart, digital and music skills, together and it is a great honour for us to be invited.”

The festival is looking for young volunteers with an interest in computer coding and music to help out in preparation for the event, and in return they will receive free tickets to MozFest.

* The festival’s painting exhibition Truth and Reconciliation, which is touring libraries across the borough this year, has now landed at Ealing Central Library and will continue until October 27 before moving to Southall Library from October 29-November 17.
