Ten restaurants are in the running to be crowned the Best Takeaway in North London at the 2016 British Takeaway Awards (BTAs) including Ealing’s Nepalese food outlet Munstang’s.

The BTAs - which are run in association with Just Eat, the world’s leading marketplace for online food delivery - are about celebrating the diverse range of cuisines and rewarding the amazing contribution a nation of takeaway owners make to both their local communities and the UK economy.

Over the last month thousands of food fans in North London have been voting online and via post for their favourite takeaway. North Londoners have the most diverse taste by nominating nine different cuisine types, more than any other region involved in the British Takeaway Awards.

In no particular order, the ten restaurants that received the most nominations from its customers are 2015 winner The Golden Fish in Dagenham, EatFirst in Aldgate, Pumpkin Rice Jerk Grill in Barnet, Bengal Bertie’s in North Finchley, Kabul City Restaurant in Edgware, Dessert Express in Canary Wharf, Palki Indian Restaurant in North Kensington, Sumo Fresh in Wanstead, Pandan Thai Kitchen in Golders Green and Ealing’s very own Munstang’s.

Graham Corfield, UK Managing Director of Just Eat, said: “The British Takeaway Awards are all about recognising and rewarding the diversity and excellence of the nation’s takeaway industry.

“Making it to the top ten best takeaways restaurants in North London is a great achievement as it means their customers think they are providing great food and excellent customer service.”

The next stage of the Awards has now launched.  The general public has until October 24 2016 to visit the website www.thebtas.co.uk and vote for which one of the ten local takeaways they think has what it takes to be the best in North London.

The top five takeaways in North London that receive the most votes across the two voting periods will make it to the star-studded national awards ceremony.

The British Takeaway Awards 2016 will take place on December 5 at The Savoy in London, where the most celebrated names in British takeaway food will come together to celebrate the success of Britain’s best independent takeaway businesses.

In total, 14 awards will be presented.  Each of the 13 regional winners will receive £1,000 and free sign up to Just Eat, or their sign-up fee returned if they are already a partner.  But one of the 13 will be extra lucky as they will win the coveted award for Best British Takeaway in Britain and also receive a cheque for £5,000.
