A BRAZILIAN martial arts school is running free classes in Acton after receiving support from the FreeSport initiative.

Marcus Cabeca’s School of Capoeira is running free classes for 12-22 year olds at the Acton Reynolds Sports Centre until Wednesday, October 26.

The Kingston-based school, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, has been given funding from the FreeSport initiative.

The scheme is designed to encourage participation among those less likely to engage in physical activity.

Mr Cabeca, originally from Sao Paolo, started teaching capoeira classes in Kingston in 2006.

He is active in promoting the martial art which combines dance and music with self-defence, and wider Brazilian culture in London.

The initiative is financed by the Mayor of London and Coca-Cola Zero’s Park Lives scheme, which provides up to £1,500 for 150 organisations twice a year.

The classes are being held at 7:30pm on Wednesdays.
