IT may be 9,000km away but Everyone Active centres in Ealing are calling on the community to take part in their Rio Olympic celebrations by joining them in a number of activities across the borough this month.

Throughout August, Northolt Leisure Centre, Southall Sports Centre, Everyone Active Acton, as well as Greenford, Elthorne, Twyford and Reynolds Sports Centres, Brent Valley Golf Course and Perivale Park Athletics Track will be hosting a range of ‘Road to Rio’ activities open to the whole community.

Row to Rio

From August 6-21, Everyone Active is looking for participants to help them row the 9,200km to Rio.

Visitors can pop into any of the Everyone Active centres and complete any distance they can as part of the challenge, from 500m to 5,000m.

There will also be rowing pop-ups throughout Ealing where members of the community can get involved.

Watt Bike Challenge

From August 1, a Watt Bike challenge will offer visitors the chance to win a month’s membership by showing the biggest improvement in their 1km time.

The fastest cyclists will also get invited to the Race Night on August 17, in partnership with Watt Bike, with great prizes to be won.

Walk, Jog, Run a Marathon

Be inspired by the Team GB athletes and collect a training guide from the Ealing Everyone Active centres on how to run, walk or jog the distance of a marathon throughout the Olympics.

Anyone can complete the 26.2mile challenge, both in and out of the gym.

Cabinet member for transport, environment and leisure, Councillor Bassam Mahfouz said: “The Olympics is always exciting so it’s great to see Everyone Active Ealing organise a series of brilliant sporting challenges so you can be part of the action.

“We hope even more residents in Ealing will take inspiration from the athletes performing in Rio and get more active this summer.”

There is a huge range of other exciting activities taking place from a table tennis tournament at Northolt Leisure Centre to a Rio Minathon Challenge for youngsters, in partnership with Fit for Sport, at Perivale Park Athletics Track.

Northolt Leisure Centre is also holding introductory boxing sessions, while Twyford Sports Centre is offering the chance to try out fencing and tennis in weekly coached sessions.

“We are delighted to be inviting the local community to join us in getting into the Olympic spirit at all of our Everyone Active Ealing centres,” says Everyone Active contract manager James Bowden.

“With a host of amazing activities taking place throughout August, why not grab your friends and family and come and get involved!”
