FESTIVAL season will soon be here and with music, comedy, food and beer festivities planned by Ealing Council, there will be plenty to celebrate without looking far afield.

This year sees a new addition with Eat Drink Ealing, which aims to cater to all tastes on Ealing Common over the first weekend of July.

The London Mela in Gunnersbury Park will not be held this summer, but is expected to return next year in time to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Indian independence.

This year's crammed schedule kicks off with Greenford Carnival on June 18 in Ravenor Park, organised by ‘local people with a passion for parties’.

For those who don’t feel bitter about sampling a new brew, CAMRA will be presenting the Ealing Beer Festival for its 27th year.

July 9 will be a busy Saturday as the Acton Carnival is due to hold a procession towards Acton Park filled with glittering home made costumes and music sure to enthral crowds.

The fun will continue with comedy, blues and jazz at Walpole Park later in the month.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, the council’s cabinet member for transport, environment and leisure, said: "These dates are definitely ones for the diary.”

An Ealing Council spokesman said the London Mela organisers, Remarkable Productions, would be setting up a new independent trust to manage the mela, which would be financially independent from Ealing and Hounslow Councils and would develop strategies to fill the gap left by the reduction in funding from local authorities.

Remarkable Productions director Julian Rudd said: “The London Mela is in the process of development and reinvention as it marches towards trust status and financial independence. It is right that we have a fallow year in 2016 in order to get that right.

"We are aiming to celebrate the birth of the new independent London Mela Trust in 2017, on the 70th anniversary of Indian independence, with the greatest London Mela yet.”
