PEOPLE can still sign up for the award-winning Ealing Half Marathon taking place later this month - but will have to get their running shoes on to beat the deadline.

Organisers have issued a final call to enter the race, voted Best Half Marathon for the second year in a row at The 2015 Running Awards.

Those interested must sign up by 4.30pm on Thursday September 17 to take part in the event on Sunday September 27.

Only 500 places are left for this year’s race, which expects to see 1,000 more runners than the 6,000 registered last year.

Councillor Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council, said: “The Ealing Half Marathon is a great community event for the borough.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for residents to be active in their local area while raising money and awareness for chosen charities.

“If you’re not one of the thousands taking part, I encourage you to come forward and take on opportunities to help out on race day.”

The 13.1 mile single lap course starts and finishes in Lammas Park, taking in parts of central Ealing, Montpelier, Pitshanger, west Ealing, Hanwell and St Stephen’s.

It was introduced in the Olympic year in order to bring a mass participation sporting event to Ealing that would be a legacy to the 2012 games.

Event coordinator Sandra Courtney said: “We would like to encourage local businesses and residents to actively support the event and cheer on the runners, giving participants from near and far a warm welcome and a fantastic race experience so that we can defend our title as UK’s Best Half Marathon at The Running Awards next year!”

The course records, both set in 2013, are held by Matthew Kiprotich Kimutai (1:04:33) and Gladys Ruto (1:15:28).

Entry costs are £34 for affiliated and £36 for unaffiliated runners, which includes a medal and online e-goody bag for all finishers, plus entry into a draw to win a Mercedes bike.

People can also sign up to run and raise money for headline charity Alzheimer’s Society, at www.ealinghalfmarathon.com
