BUSINESSES in Ealing are being asked to back a bid to create 100 apprenticeships for young people in 100 days.

The 100 in 100 campaign, which runs until December 9, is a drive to create job opportunities for 16 to 24-year-olds by giving them access to quality employment and related training.

Ealing Council are running the campaign for a third year after exceeding its target in both 2013 and 2014.

Small and medium sized employers that have fewer than 1,000 staff and have not previously provided an apprenticeship may be eligible for a government grant of up to £1,500 to help fund the placement.

Councillor Steve Hynes, cabinet member for prosperity, skills and employment, said: “After the great success of the last two years in getting businesses to pledge to create new apprenticeships, I’m delighted that we’re once again running the 100 in 100 campaign.

“Not only do apprenticeships provide a wonderful training opportunity for young people, giving them a structured route into a career, they also bring enormous benefits to the businesses involved.”

An Ealing Council spokesman said their apprenticeship team would be on hand to provide information and practical support to small companies setting up placements for the first time.
