ALEC Reed Academy in Northolt has achieved its best ever A Level results.

The percentage of students achieving two or more passes at A level was up to 88.2, an improvement on last year’s 78 per cent.

And half of students achieved three or more A Levels at A* to C.

The school, which was given a good rating by Ofsted earlier this year, was used as the location for part of Channel 4’s dystopian drama Humans.

Principal Gary Lobbett said: “I am delighted that our post-16 students have done so well. It is great to see their delight in these outstanding results.

“Students have committed themselves to their academic and vocational studies and have also contributed a great deal to the life of the academy and local community.

“I am very proud of them all and of the excellent teaching and support teams at the academy. Many congratulations to everyone.”

After fleeing trouble in Afghanistan five years ago and arriving in the UK without any English, Bashir Garwal has now completed his A2 maths and design technology course, as well as a business BTEC diploma at distinction.

Over 90 per cent of all students at Alec Reed Academy achieved places at their first choice university.

Nicole Aresti got two As and a B and will study criminology at Westminster, where her uncle is a lecturer.

David Cueva Camacho got an A and two Bs and is going to the University of Kent. He was inspired to read economics when his family moved over from Spain, because of a decreased demand for the products they were selling there.

Independent schools in the Ealing borough are also celebrating today.

Ealing Independent College achieved its best ever A Level results - nearly a third of all grades awarded (32 per cent) were A and above, and 60 per cent of grades awarded were B or better.

Principal Dr Ian Moores said: “My dedicated staff, the industry of the students, and the approach that we take at the college enabled students to reach their goals and in many cases surpass all expectations. ”

Ali Al-Sibahi, who joined the college for an intensive one year GCSE course after a disappointing performance at a state school, has now achieved two As and a B and will read pharmacy at UCL.

Simran Sidhu joined Ealing Independent College after obtaining a U and a D in A levels elsewhere. After one year at Ealing he has raised these to two Bs and will be going to study chemical engineering at Aston University.

St Augustine’s Priory, a Catholic independent day school for girls on Hillcrest Road, has achieved a 100 per cent pass rate at A Level.

And in Cambridge iGCSE results announced on Tuesday, 89 per cent of English literature candidates achieved grades A* to B and 100 per cent of English Language candidates got grades A* to C.

Their next open day is on Saturday October 10 for nursery to 16-year-olds, and Thursday October 15 for sixth form.
