ALMOST a year after teenager Alice Gross went missing, her mum Ros Hodgkiss has announced she will be running the Ealing Half Marathon to raise funds for Alice's Youth Music Memorial Fund.

She and husband José Gross set up the fund in memory of their 14-year-old daughter, who found great joy in making music before she was cruelly murdered last year.

Alice's disappearance on August 28 sparked the Met’s largest police search since the 7/7 bomb attacks, with many people in the community helping to look for her.

Participants of last year’s Ealing Half Marathon wore yellow ribbons while the search was underway.

Ms Hodgkiss, who completed the Osterley Park 10K race in June and is now preparing for her first half marathon, said: “So much has happened since last year’s race, I really don’t know how I’ll feel on the day.

“I want to run and pay tribute to all those who supported us last year, at a very difficult time.

“I’m hoping other runners might join me in memory of Alice and to help me to raise funds for Alice’s Youth Music Memorial Fund in support of the wonderful Youth Music.”

The fund has raised close to £34,000 for the charity, which supports 400 music projects around the country for children and young people in challenging circumstances.

Kelvin Walker, event director for the Ealing Half Marathon CIC, said: “It’s an honour to have Ros taking part in the race this year.

“I imagine it will be a very poignant day for her but given our involvement in the search for Alice last year, we’re very happy for Alice’s Youth Music Memorial Fund to be one of our associated charitable beneficiaries.

“We wish Ros all the best for the race and look forward to seeing her on the finishing line.”
