PUPILS from St Augustine’s Priory in Ealing are throwing themselves into fund-raising for three organisations which focus on research into cancer or support those who are living with it.
Their summer term initiative got off to a great start last week when Year 8 pupils held a bake sale for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
This turned into a flash mob event with girls, seniors and juniors, dancing in the rain. The event raised £200 for a charity which helps support teenagers diagnosed with cancer.
Next on the girls’ agenda is Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, with more than 150 pupils, parents and staff taking part in a 5k run on June 7 at Old Deer Park, Richmond.
Many girls are taking part with their mothers. The target is £3,000 and they are currently at £800.
The tradition of contributing is not confined to current pupils. Past student Laura Ely is raising money for Worldwide Cancer Research, which funds research into any type of cancer, anywhere in the world.
A group of students from the University of Exeter will be trekking through the valleys of Peru to help fund scientific research.
St Augustine’s Priory is an independent Catholic day school for girls aged 3-18 in Hillcrest Road.
