BURIAL space in Greenford Cemetery is to be increased at a cost of £450,000.
The space will be created by developing an area of derelict land within the existing cemetery boundary, along Windmill Road.
The extra space will provide room for burials for another 10 years.
If the expansion did not go ahead, it is estimated the cemetery would have to close to new burials in the next three to five years.
Money will be spent on landscaping and construction, including levelling the ground, planting grass and wildflowers and constructing new paths and an access road.
The decision was taken by Ealing Council’s cabinet on Tuesday.
