EALING Rotary Club is extending its work for charity in the borough to projects that last for three to five years.

It’s a break from the normal practice of helping initiatives for just a year.

Until now, the projects changed annually after the nomination of a new president on June 30.

Former president Sarah Ball, who is helping to oversee the transition, said: “We felt it was time for a change.

“We’re a small club who are keen to grow our numbers and do more active, hands-on service.”

Recently, the club helped to raise more than £2,000 for Ealing Dyslexia Association and collected enough money to provide SADS UK with six defibrillators.

Every year, it presents illustrated dictionaries to leavers of St John’s Primary School in West Ealing, as well as a sum of money for them to invest in a business in the developing world.

Ideal projects for the Rotarians to support will involve partners with a good track record of community service, who need volunteering support and help with fund-raising.

The club is looking for new members and convenes every Wednesday evening at Lisa’s Restaurant in Pitshanger Lane.

Founded in 1926, Ealing Rotary Club will be celebrating its 90th anniversary next year.
