EALING gallery For Arts Sake is presenting 15 Years of Linocuts, a solo exhibition of work by Paul Catherall, a printmaker known for his London Transport posters depicting famous London landmarks.

The exhibition will be held at the gallery at 45 Bond Street from April 17-May 17 inclusive. Monday-Friday, 10am-5.30pm, Saturday 10am-6pm, Sunday noon-5pm.

Catherall presents more than 50 works, including original prints from TfL’s recent bus poster campaign. They include striking images that feature the new Routemaster bus against St Paul’s Cathedral, Parliament Square and Kings Cross.

Also on display will be design packaging and book cover illustrations for Penguin and Profile books, some for the first time.

Combining an expert eye for composition and colour with consummate draughtsmanship, Catherall creates prints entirely by hand in a painstaking relief process that takes several weeks to complete.

Brian Davis, owner of For Arts Sake, said: “Many Londoners will be familiar with his work, even if they don’t know his name, as he produces images that have been displayed as posters on bus stops and tube stations all over the city.

“Each print takes weeks to complete and, in the exhibition, you can see the time involved. Linocraft is a physical, as well as creative, process and each print is made by hand, demonstrating the care and attention that goes into Paul’s work.”

The exhibition is free to enter with nearly all of the works available to buy. There will also be a competition giving people an opportunity to win an artist proof of one of Catherall’s Oxo Tower prints, which have now sold out.
