A NEW primary school in Southall, one of David Cameron’s raft of free schools, has been approved by the Department for Education.

Floreat Southall, set up by the charity Floreat Education, will work towards opening in September 2016, and will admit 60 reception pupils in its first year.

The school will join Floreat Alperton, also just approved, as part of Floreat’s second wave of schools, following Wandsworth and Brentford, which will open this year.

James O’Shaughnessy, managing director of Floreat Education, said: “The whole team is incredibly excited to be opening a new school in Southall – an area of rich cultures and great diversity, but not without its challenges too.

“Our ‘academics + character’ approach proved really popular with parents when we were marketing the school.”

Natalie Evans, Director of New Schools Network, said: “The application process to set up a free school is incredibly rigorous – as it should be – so it is a testament to Floreat Education’s hard work that they have been approved to open.”
